ADI Part 2

ADI Part 2To become an ADI you must successfully complete a three part qualifying examination.

Part 2 is a practical test of your driving ability.

About The Test

The practical test of driving ability consists of tests of both eyesight and driving ability. Firstly, you must be able to read a car number plate from a distance of 27.5 meters.

This part of the test can be likened to the 'Advanced Driving Test', in that the requirements and expectations for this are far higher than that of a standard driving test. The test lasts for an hour and you aren't allowed any major faults throughout the test and only 6 minor faults are permitted.

The test lasts for about 1 hour. You must pass both the eyesite and the driving test at the same time in order to proceed to Part 3.

The ADI Part 2 Driving Test

To pass this test you need to show many qualities that aren't required for the standard 'L' test. You will need to drive to a very high standard for about an hour and carry out a series of reversing exercises. You must demonstrate that you have advanced knowledge with regard to road safety and driving procedures and put them into practice.

The instructor will be looking for all of the following:

The test route will take in many different areas from built up areas, to areas with a high volume of traffic, to motorways and dual carriageways.

You must also demonstrate the ability to perform safety checks on the car at any given time. This could involve a number of areas on the car including tyres, brakes etc.

Normally just the examiner will be in the car with you but occasionally the Examiner's Supervisor may also be in the car. If this happens on your test, don't worry. The Examiner's Supervisor will be effectively marking the examiner and not you.

Once you have successfully passed this part of the test you can move onto ADI Part 3.
