ADI Part 3
To become an ADI you must successfully complete a three part qualifying examination.
Part 3 is a practical test of your ability to instruct.
Part 3 - Your Ability to Instruct
This part of the test is widely regarded as the most difficult. Up until now you have been the 'student'. Now the boot is on the other foot and you have to use everything you have learned to help others.
Once you have reached this stage, it's safe to say driving is of a very high standard and you have demonstrated your ability to drive safely and skillfully in numerous conditions.
The emphasis of this part of the test is solely on your ability to instruct.
Like ADI Part 1 and ADI Part 2, this test is split into 2 parts. In both parts the examiner takes on the role of a learner driver and you are their instructor.
Both parts of the test last for approximately 30 minutes each.
In the first part of the test, the examiner will assume the role of a new driver, typical of one on their first driving lesson. You will need to demonstrate that you can give instructions in a clear, concise manner and put the 'learner driver' at ease.
In the second part of the test, the examiner will take on the role of a learner driver at a standard where they are ready to take their driving test. This therefore involves a different manner of teaching and again the examiner will be looking for you to deliver the 'lesson' in a clear and confident manner.
The object of the test is to assess the value of the instruction you give and your ability to pass your knowledge on to pupils.
You must pass both parts on the same test in order pass ADI Part 3.
Once you have successfully done this, then "Congratulations" you are now a fully qualified driving instructor and we may even be able to offer you a career with Surrey Driving Force!
