Surrey Driving Instructor Check Test Training
Once in a while, as an ADI you will receive a letter from the DSA requiring you to take a Driving Instructor Check Test. As a newly qualified ADI, this normally comes within the first 12 months of qualifying. An experienced ADI can expect a check test every 4 years.
Why Do They Do This?
The Driving Instructor Check Test is designed to confirm your ability to instruct. A check test will determine if you have any areas that need to be improved and failure to pass the test.
After the check test you will be given a grade from 1-6, 6 being the highest, or you may be given an 'E' grade if it is your first check test and you've not reached the required standard.
If you receive and 'E' grade, you will not automatically be removed from the register, but you will find that you have frequent check tests in order to prove you can meet the standard. If you continue to fail these you can be removed from the ADI register which will result in losing your livelihood.
Training For The Check Test
Whilst you are not required to take any additional lessons in preparation for the check test, we believe it is very beneficial to do so. Over a period of time you can pick up bad habits or there could be new teaching methods and skills that you may not be aware of.
It's always better to go in for the test fully prepared, and our grade 6 driving instructors will help you correct any procedures that may not be up to scratch.
We find that our check test training also gives you added confidence when taking the check test, as you are going in fully prepared and know exactly what to expect. If you achieve a grade 4,5, or 6 on your check test, you won't need to take the test again for 4 years whereas anything lower will result in another test being requested within 12 months.
The check tests can be very daunting particularly as your livelihood is potentially on the line, so we cannot stress enough how important good quality training is to you.
